- Perception. Most individuals report a sense of something being not quite right. They describe an abnormal feeling when instigating motion, like taking a first step or standing up from a chair. Any activity involving weight bearing may hurt or convey an uneasy perception of instability. A slight limp may also develop and worsen gradually until it suddenly becomes noticeable.
- Flexibility. There will be a marked decline in physical skills. Generally this involves the onset of stiffness or awkwardness. This may also manifest as fatigue, a decrease in stamina, or an inability to do things that were previously possible, like climbing stairs or walking on a slight incline, even on a smooth surface like a sidewalk.
