do television stations keep archival copies of all the programs and commercials that they have ever aired?

do cable and network television stations keep archival copies of all the programs and commercials that they have ever aired since the 1970s, exactly as they originally aired? if not, what do they do with all these tv broadcasts? if they do in fact keep all their tv broadcasts, is it possible to purchase from these stations specific airings of programs (with their commercials) from specific dates, as they originally aired?

This is true of in-house productions (shows the networks produce themselves) and shows that they own the rights to outright (example: "The Price Is Right") made since 1975.
The networks keep film and videotape archives to store master tapes and film elements (for programs made on film and kinescopes of shows made before 1975).

Shows made by outside producers (i.e. the major movie studios and producers like George Schlatter) or owned by other companies are archived by those companies/individual owners (broadcast copies are in network archives for most of these).

Some post-1975 network and cable shows are now in the hands of others (examples: the Filmation cartoons are now owned by the British company Entertainment Rights plc; the Goodson-Todman game shows except TPIR are property of FremantleMedia; the pre-1992 Tonight Show episodes belong to Johnny Carson’s estate).

It is possible to purchase copies of network-owned shows, but it’ll cost an arm and a leg to get them straight from the network’s archive (a researcher to track down the tape, the expense to transfer the old Umatic/2" quad/1"/D1/D3 digital composite tape onto DVD/VHS, etc., etc.).

How Much Time Do Television Actors Have To Memorize Their Lines?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under television | 5 Comments »

As a begining actor, I am interested in knowing how much time Television actors have to memorize their before they appear camera whether it a one hour drama, thirty minute comedy, or a commercial. Can anyone please help? Thank you.

It soooo depends. Yes, you generally get a script 2 weeks in advance but a lot of times things are rewritten anyway and the morning of the day you are shooting you get another set of colored pages and things have changed so how much time do you get? I’d say 2 hours – 2 weeks :-) If you’re on contract yes you may get the help of a prompter or a cue card person but it’s best just to memorize. Plus you can hide your script in a prop for peeks between takes. For instance if you’re sitting on a couch, your script can be behind the cushion. If your standing by something with a drawer, it may be in the drawer.

Why did mainstream media skew headlines about gay parade in Russia?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under headlines | 6 Comments »

I love how the media headlines the event "Moscow police violently break up gay pride rally".

Why not "Gay pride rally turns violent when police try to disperse crowd" or "Gay pride marchers turn violent when told their parade was illegal" or "Gay pride marchers attack police"?

The liberal media feels the need to lead the reader in to the conclusion they want them to reach – it is very clear who they want the reader to have sympathy with.

I didn’t see footage of it, maybe it’s a simple statement of fact that the police reacted violently to a peaceful demonstration? Come on, this is Putin’s Russia we’re talking about!

How to recruit quality women into local sorority?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under local | 4 Comments »

We are a local sorority with no ties to the panhel recruitment process, which means we get sucked under the boat during recruitment.

Seeking innovative ways to recruit women on small campus to our sorority! Ideas from local sorority women please!

What & where can we market to women to make them interested, seeing as we don’t have as many connections as panhel sororities?

HELP!!!

What would attract you to a sorority?

I’m in a panhellenic sorority but I can tell you that over the years, my chapter has built a good academic reputation because our sisters have good relationships with the faculty and staff. As a result, the faculty and staff will point quality women to us.

Can the pro illegal explain how Illegal Immigration Costs TN $300M Per Year where are the BENEFITS 2 AMERICA?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under newschannel | 9 Comments »

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A new report puts a price tag on how much illegal immigrants cost Tennessee taxpayers.

It is close to $300 million every year, according to the study conducted the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a nonprofit research group.

It contradicts a report by the state comptroller’s office released in August that indicated undocumented immigrants boosted the economy and did not take jobs from any Tennessee workers.

Jack Martin’s team of researchers at FAIR investigated the cost of illegal immigration in Tennessee.

"The largest category of expenses to the taxpayers is for the education of the children of illegal immigrants," Martin said.

The cost is $255 million each year for education from kindergarten through the twelfth grade and ESL programs. Martin estimates an additional $30 million is spent on healthcare and incarceration, bringing the total to $285 million.

How does this report differ from the state comptroller’s report?

"One of the main differences the comptroller’s report was also trying to calculate the value of goods and services provided by the illegal immigrants," Martin said. "And that doesn’t really make any sense unless you’re working on the assumption that those jobs wouldn’t be done by Americans if the illegal immigrants were not taking those jobs."

Martin doesn’t believe the immigrants are doing jobs Americans workers would not do.

"There’s no job in the United States being done only by illegal aliens, so you know there are Americans working alongside illegal aliens," he said.

NewsChannel 5 assembled a small sampling of Nashville’s Hispanic community to respond to the report.

"It’s a growth," said one leader. "We have to have extra help to develop it. When they come here, whether illegal or not, makes no difference. They are extra labor that we need."

If Tennesseans are spending million to educate illegal immigrants is that really a bad thing?

"I will never consider investing on education as something that is detrimental to our growth and development," said Yuri Cunza, president of the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

"Everything has a negative and we can all say, well that person shouldn’t have this, but we can also look at the positives," said Rachel Hernandez. "I think that sometimes with immigrants we’re forgetting their part."

A Tennessee Department of Education spokeswoman said it’s hard to estimate just how many children of illegal immigrants are actually in the state school system. Federal law prohibits school officials from asking about a student’s immigration status.

Several lawmakers such as state Rep. Debra Maggart are calling for the state comptroller to deliver another report about illegal immigration.http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/story.asp?S=7323049
When they come here, whether illegal or not, makes no difference.
BS… It DOES make a difference. And herein lies the problem with most hispanic "leaders" – they can’t or won’t distinguish between legal and illegal immigration.
“Federal law prohibits school officials from asking about a student’s immigration status.”

This also means that legal, proper ID is not used…

The students could be too old for school, etc, and therefore other services are then applied for and received, fraudulently…or not even the child of the person registering him…

How many American citizens would get away with scams like this?

For all those who do not care that our taxes are going to fund this fiasco, YOU pay the taxes to keep this going. Don’t complain when your children cannot progress in the classroom because of having to cater to the lowest common denominator. All children in the class have to complete the grade and move on to the next, even if they are going into the 5th grade with 3rd grade skills. Keep backing No Child Left Behind. No more can students be held back a grade, so other children can compete with those on their level.

How to cite several newspaper articles from the same newspaper?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under newspaper | 1 Comment »

I’m citing several articles by the New York Times, some of them are published in the same issue date and others are published from the same newspaper but different dates.

I really need to know how to properly cite them on a works cited page when there is more than one article from the same newspaper source.

I just asked a similar question and realized I’m unsure at how to do this. I’m using 2009 MLA update 7th edition. My reference book does not specify.

It’s my impression you cite each one independently, due to each being a different article

Is it possible to request a copy of a recorded event from a TV station?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under tv station | 1 Comment »

I wonder if TV stations have their archived videos available for people to buy. I am interested in getting a copy of Barack Obama’s rally in Charlotte on November 3, and I wonder if I contact the local stations, I will be able to pay for a copy of the recorded broadcast.

It may be possible, however they will charge a pretty penny to do it if they will at all.
Best way to find out is to phone them and ask.
