does anyone know the total number of television stations that are in the United States. I can’t find a cumulative number.

From 1946-1956 there were only 4 stations, nowdays there are more than twenty main broadcasting networks.

this is for a report for tech…i need to know how a television works in detail, what are the pros and cons of a television over its life span, who is the inventor, when and where it was developed, and what other technologies have developed as a result of the television. for my bibliography i need at least one book, encyclopedia, computer, and magazine.

I am having a hard time finding an original headlines for these two sections. Can some of you guys please help me out?

"Your schools basketball team goes 7-3", or whatever it is, "as Le Bron James takes NBA MVP". It would be neat to throw in some historical fact that is common knowledge to most people relating to the worlds greatest athletes. Use any of the big name athletes from any sport you are writing on, with their major accomplishment.

Basically iv drawn a blank and i cant think of anything that a local council could do that would affect the children of the community and then therefore would anger the parents of the community.

Any suggestions would be great. I am looking for a more local council act. Like getting rid of a playground for something. Btw im not having a go at the council, personally i think they aren’t appreciated as much as they should be. But i just need an example that would really hit home for an article im writing. Maybe something that would affect the children of the community rather then anything else.

The problem with this is not fox news. but all of the people that watch one news outlet. If you listen to only one side of the issue, and base you decision on that information, then you are the problem. You have to listen to both sides of the issue, and that is were FNC come in. They are the only news outlet that provides the other side of the story.

Let me make this clear to you. If you go to a stock broker, and he tell you what to buy, are you going to put your life savings into this stock? Our are you going to check out the company that he wants you to invest in, and make your own decision. If you don’t check both sides and you go strictly on the brokers recommendation, and you go broke, then who’s fault is it. The broker may have been trying to dump stock from one of his larger customers like Al Gore.

I am an international student, I want to know what newspaper company in the U.S is considering a good newspaper company and bad newspaper company? What I mean good and bad, is about the information coverage. Thanks so much.

I am doing a project that find a political topic that consider to “ideal” news article for an informed citizenry and an article that is the worst in providing information citizens need to make informed decisions. Therefore, I want to know some US newspaper company.

The Christian Science Monitor is considered to be the most honest, forthright, and accurate news reporting company in the U.S.

I’m interested in the number do daily and weekly newspapers published in the US and a source for the number would be terrific.

I will be interviewing for a Finance position with a local tv station and want to know some quick information about the operations of a station. Thanks all.

Is it a network O&O (owned and operated by a network, like NBC), or is it an affiliate, owned by a 3rd party, like Gannett?

What channel is it on?

Who are the on-air staff, especially the main anchors?

How is it doing in the ratings? How does it rank in the market compared to other stations? Which other station is its chief competitor?

What size market is your city? This refers to Neilsen.

Is the station profitable? (Although that’s kind of a no-brainer, as having a TV license from the FCC is almost like being allowed to print money!)

Who is the General Manager, and who is the News Director?

Do they have like a computer that tells them, right now we have 1000 viewers, oh now we have less 800. And do the TV stations make more money if more people watch? or how does that work?

TV shows get credit based on surveys. The survey data is collected in a number of ways.

1) People Meters and Household Meters – this is equipment that the ratings survey company installs on your TV at your house (with your permission, of course) that reads codes hidden in the picture and audio that records what is on the TV and when.
2) Ratings diaries – these are books that viewers fill out about their viewing habits.
3) Telephone surveys.

In all cases, the viewers know that they are part of a survey group, agree to participate, and are usually paid some small amount for supplying viewing data. That data from the *small* survey group (a.k.a. sample) is then run through some mathematical magic to calculate the "rating" for each show.

These things are not always 100% accurate, but it’s the best the industry has. I can remember one station where I worked where one rating book said we were #1 sign on to sign off 7 days a week. We didn’t believe it, the other stations didn’t believe it, but we made a lot of sales that calendar quarter! Other periods, the book sucks for no good reason and we have to live with that too, so it all balances out . . .

So you see, when they say "50 million people are watching the game right now" they really don’t know for sure, but they can make an educated guess!
